Stay on the first two strings until you have the pattern down.
Watch that your pick doesn’t go to far above or below the target string.
Keep the fret hand movement small and precise.

The spider exercise is great for developing your alternate picking, but it can help with your hybrid picking too. Don’t be overly picky on which technique you use. They’re both good to know and if you are comfortable with each technique, you’ll have more options to pick from when it comes to tricky licks.
